Competitive is a special in-testing gamemode based off of the popular Team Fortress 2 Competitive Leagues. Competitive can be played within the 'Official Gametypes' section in the server browser.

At the start of each game, players are placed in the Waiting Room and are prompted to 'Ready Up' by pressing the "O" keybind to begin a best-of-3 set of rounds (the number of rounds can be changed through the F4 competitive menu). If not all players are Readied Up, a Mann vs. Machine style countdown begins automatically.[1]

Once a round begins, players are given the ability to vote for the map that will be played on during the set number of rounds. The gamemodes in the map pool include Control Points, King of the Hill, and Payload.

Some gamemodes have changed gamerules to better suit competitive play. Control Points features an external 30-minute timer that does not increase upon capturing points, and stalemates the round if it reaches zero.[2] Payload features a 'Stopwatch timer'[3] that tracks how long it takes for a team to reach and capture a checkpoint, Once a round of Payload ends, players will swap teams, and the stopwatch timer will count down while ignoring any time on the actual standard timer. If the attacking team cannot reach the same checkpoint capture within the stopwatch timer, the attacking team for that round loses.

If a player on a team leaves the game server, or if enough players use the "!timeout" chat command, the current round will pause. The pause can end by players typing the "!timeout" chat command if a round is already paused, or if the team slot for the missing player gets filled using the 'Substitute in' competitive menu setting.

Banned Weapons

Competitive has numerous weapons that are disallowed for a specific reason(s). If a player equips a banned weapon, it is automatically replaced with its stock weapon-equivalent.

Class Weapon Reason of Ban

The Specialist is banned due to it allowing for captures at an unreasonably fast rate.

The Colbat is banned due to its very high firerate and extreme accuracy, allowing overly easy killing of support classes.

The Witches Brew is banned due to its ability to allow the Flanker to break several health thresholds at longer ranges and its +25% speed boost while active.

The Batarang is banned due to its fast projectile speed, quick recharge, and significant damage at range, including its bleed mechanic.

The Sandman is banned due to its fast projectile speed, quick recharge, and significant damage at range, including its slowing effect.

The Stellar Carpet is banned due to it being considered a direct upgrade to the stock Rocket Launcher in competitive scenarios.

The RE:COIL is banned due to it being considered a direct upgrade to the stock Rocket Launcher in competitive scenarios.

The Buff Banner is banned due to the ease of obtaining rage, the power of mini-crits with the lack of damage fall-off, and Typical Color 2's larger player hitboxes.

The Reserve Shooter is banned due to it being considered a direct upgrade to the stock Shotgun in competitive scenarios, along with it being the best weapon to counter bombing enemies.

The Acid Trader is banned due to it allowing Annihilator to cover the enemy team with mini-crits, letting his team deal massive damage with no drawback.

The Ragin' Bull is banned due to its critical hits on charge that can too easily take out classes.

The Shock and Awe is banned due to it being considered a direct upgrade to the stock Broken Sword in competitive scenarios.

The HuangLong's Wrath is banned due to it being considered a direct upgrade to the stock Flamethrower in competitive scenarios.

The Special-Ops Sushi is banned because it allows Brute to repeatedly gain and/or give 100 overheal to himself and/or their team's Doctor during setup.

The Gravity Coil is banned due to it allowing Brute to reach positions he could not normally reach.

The Eureka Effect is banned due to it removing any risk that comes from Mechanic leaving their nest to head back to spawn to place a Teleporter Entrance if it gets destroyed.

The Mercy Kill is banned due to it giving Doctor the ability to easily dodge any incoming attacks while freely building Supercharge.

The Blood Doctor is banned due to its frequent Supercharges and the ability to spam mini-crits from a far distance with classes such as Brute and Trooper.

These Mediguns are banned due to their frequent Supercharges, the ability to hard counter any attempts to attack Doctor, and their easy ability to counter an opposing team's Supercharge if timed correctly.

The Sour Shots is banned due to its ability to easily drop high-value classes along with covering anyone nearby with lemonade, making them take mini-crits.

The Efficient Eliminator is banned due to it being considered a direct upgrade to the stock Sniper Rifle in competitive scenarios.

The Lemonade is banned due to it allowing the Marksman to cover the enemy team with mini-crits, letting his team deal massive damage with no drawbacks.

The Camper's Climber is banned due to it allowing Marksman to reach positions he could not normally reach.

The Quick Draw is banned due to it being considered a direct upgrade to the stock Revolver in competitive scenarios.

The Spy Camera is banned due to it allowing Agent to provide crucial details on enemy locations without risk, while also applying a healing debuff and giving the Agent on-demand mini-crits.

The Afterimage is banned due to its ability to let the Agent easily get past the enemy defenses extremely fast.

The Wraith is banned due to it allowing the Agent to become a second healer on the team, along with being able to overheal friendly Doctors and bypass any overheal restrictions (eg, Razorback and Concealed Carry).

The Furious Flagxe is banned due to it allowing Trooper and Annihilator to capture at an unreasonably fast rate, along with a slight movement speed bonus with little downside.
